The World Antibiotic Awareness Week for the third year in a row worldwide at the initiative of WHO.

The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is one of the greatest dangers to public health throughout the world. In Kazakhstan, within the framework of the World Antibiotic Awareness Week from 13 to 19 November 2017, the Center for Rational Use of Medicines of the Republican Center for Health Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as CRUM), conducted an information campaign among the population, the medical and pharmaceutical community, and specialists in the field of agriculture, the main purpose of which was to improve the awareness and understanding of the threat of antibiotic resistance.

On November 13, 2017, there was a Round Table on the discussion of the National Plan for Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (CAR) within the World Antibiotic Awareness Week.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of  Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan, the World Organization for Animal Health, the Public Health Protection Committee of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Center for Rational Use of Medicines of the RSE on REM "Republican Center for Health development " of MoH of RoK"National Center for Expertise", Department for Codecs Alimentarius, clinical microbiologists, clinical pharmacologists and pharmacists.

Lazzat Yesbatyrova, the head of the department of rational pharmacotherapy of the CRUM on November 17, 2017, delivered a presentation on the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) 2017 in the International Conference "Quality of Medical Services, Patient Safety and Accreditation".

It is important to instill the skills of the correct use of antibiotics from childhood, one of which is the interactive lessons on the proper use of antibiotics that CRUM conducted in schools in Astana, Almaty, Taldykorgan, Aktobe, Aktau, Oral, Karaganda and an interactive lesson was held at the Children's Rehabilitation Center in Kyzylorda, Zhambyl regional rehabilitation center "Maternity and Childhood" in Taraz, where in an accessible game form, children are taught a competent attitude to the use of antibiotics.

Within the framework of the World Antibiotic Awareness Week, the WHO video " Antibiotics: handle with care!" Is posted on information monitors of medical organizations throughout the Republic.

Also, questionnaires were conducted among patients on the topic: "What do you know about antibiotic resistance" to increase patient awareness of the correct use of antibiotics in medical organizations of 14 regions and Astana and Almaty cities, distributed informational materials (infographic) WHO on the correct application of antibiotics. WHO infographics have been translated by the staff of the CRUM into the state language and distributed to the public and health professionals. The questionnaires on the correct use of antibiotics were attended by a population of 2595 people, medical workers 1685, and pharmaceutical workers 428. The results of the questionnaire at the analysis stage. Data will be provided upon completion of the questionnaire analysis. 

The World Antibiotic Awareness Week aims to raise awareness about the problem of antibiotic resistance and to promote their proper use among the public, health workers and politicians in order to stop the spread of this phenomenon. 

 38 articles were posted on information portals and print media about the World Antibiotic Awareness Week, CRUM staff spoke on the radio «Шалкар радиосы» on the correct use of antibiotics in the framework of World Antibiotic Awareness Week, on the regional radio " Казахстан-Тараз" on the topic: "Antibiotics in our life" and on the radio «Халық радиосы» was the regional representative of the RCHD in the Pavlodar region Zhanggerbaeva Marzhan on the theme " The World Antibiotic Awareness Week "," Антибиотиктерді дұрыс қолдану бүкіләлемдік апталығы", as well as employees of CRUM spoke on the theme" The World Antibiotic Awareness Week" “Казахстан" TV channel in the "Tansholpan" program, on the Хабар TV channel in the program «Білу маңызды», «Город сегодня»  of the local television channel РИКА ТВ, in the news program «ТӘУЛІК»  of the local television channel РИКА ТВ.

During the World Antibiotic Awareness Week, 19 lessons were conducted with the participation of 432 schoolchildren, 33 seminars and lectures with the participation of 934 students, as well as 97 presentations and seminars for medical and pharmaceutical workers, agricultural specialists (veterinarians, specialists of regional territorial inspections of the Committee of Veterinary control and supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan) with the participation of 2736 students.
